Petofi Bridge - Budapest

1.5 km distance from Budapest city center.

Petofi Bridge, Petőfi híd, is situated in the southern part of Budapest, on the Main Ring, serving major tram lines and heavy traffic in the area. Built in 1933-37, it was first named after Miklós Horthy. This bridge was bombed in 1945, and rebuilt in 1950-52, when it was named after the Hungarian poet Sándor Petőfi. Renovated at the end of the 1960’s, the 1970’s, and in 1996, the bridge is 378 metres long. Tramline 4-6 is sectioned in the centre, with two traffic lanes on either side, and separate pedestrian walkways further out.
